The desire for a broader educational basis took possession of twenty young women on February 18, 1893. They met and organized a society (Sorosis) for the purpose of literary and social development. The object of Sorosis was threefold:
I. The study of American History and Literature
II. The study of the educational, economic and philanthrophic reforms of the day
III. The study of the laws of universal kindness
