Founded in 1967 by women from Albion's former Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. This local sorority came into being because the active membership demanded that their (Zeta Tau Alpha) national sorority's bi-laws be rewritten to end any reference to discrimination. When the national sorority did not make the requested changes, the active members and Albion College's administration terminated its ties with the ZTA national organization and the some of the undergraduates formed Pi Alpha Epsilon.
