Delta Zeta at Albion College was transformed from the local Beta Iota sorority. The sorority closed due to declining enrollment. The second Delta Zeta lodge was located at 1109 E. Cass and was sold to the women of Kappa Alpha Theta.

founders
On September 24, 1902, these six women at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio founded Delta Zeta.

In a letter dated August 31, 1970, the National Council of Delta Zeta wrote:
Dear Delta Zeta Sisters of Beta Pi Chapter,
It is with sincere regret that your National Council informs you of its decision, at the post-convention Council Meeting, to place Beta Pi Chapter in dormant status prior to the start of the academic year 1970-71.
National and Province Officers have given special assistance to Beta Pi for several years in an effort to overcome membership problems. Two Panhellenic Rushes have been held during the past four years; the first was considered successful, but the second, held this past April, was disrupted by mass campus demonstrations during each party and was not successful, so that fewer than 15 members would be returning to school this Fall.
The campus is only 40% Greek now compared to 80% about ten years ago. Delta Zeta, along with the other Greek groups on this campus, have been subjected to pressure from the administration and other factions on campus, violating our rights as a private social organization.
You have undoubtedly been aware of the changing conditions on the Albion College campus, and so are somewhat prepared for this decision of the chapter and the Council. We have appreciated the interest and concern on the many fine alumnae of Beta Pi Chapter and feel that you probably support the collegiate chapter’s feeling that when campus conditions reached the point where our Delta Zeta standards could no longer be maintained, this decision was inevitable.
We are grateful for the loyalty and fine spirit which Beta Pi alumnae have shown, and it is our hope that each of you will continue your Delta Zeta friendships, through a chapter newsletter, in alumnae groups, in working with college chapters or in whatever Delta Zeta program you have the opportunity to share.
Beta Pi and its many leaders through over thirty years of its life have enriched Delta Zeta and we hope that our sorority ties may continue to be an important part in your lives.
Fraternally yours,
Elizabeth B. Devereaux
National President for the National Council

Delta Zeta alumnae continued to provide a scholarship to a deserving incoming student as late as 1974.
