Gerstacker Internaltional House was built in 1970 and was named after Rollin M. Gerstacker. It was designed as a residence study facility for languages and intercultural education.
When speaking about why the building was being demolished in an article dated December 10, 2009 - Mike Frandsen from Albion College said “Beyond the need for maintenance and repairs, it doesn't meet today’s requirements for handicapped accessibility or fire safety. The multi-million dollar cost to renovate the building and bring it up to code was prohibitive."
