The Christomathean Society

From the 1899-1900 Students’ Hand Book
“The necessity for more than one literary society to accomodate the preparatory students has long been felt by the members of that department before any steps were taken to remedy the deficiency, but at last as a result of this growing need the Christomathean society was organized in December 1898, and, starting with thirteen members as a nucleus, has been steadily increasing.
The aim of the society is to cultivate the literary taste of the student and acquaint him with many varieties of literary work; he will then be ready, upon entering the Freshman class, to take up his duties there with more ease and proficiency.”
