Motto: “Numquam da Navem.”
From the 1899-1900 Students’ Hand Book
“Every Friday evening the doors of the E. and A. hall are thrown open wide to welcome any and all who wish to enjoy its literary programs.
The meetings held each week consist of three sessions. The first, a literary program including literary and musical numbers; following this is the social session, the aim of which is to make all acquainted and at home in the social halls; lastly is held the business meeting to which members only are admitted.
Any student in the collegiate department or the conservatory may become a member by signifying a desire to join. The term fee is but one dollar and the only initiation service is the act of signing the name to the roll-book. Each member is required to appear on the program once during each term.
An oratorical contest is held annually between representatives of the Freshman and Sophomore classes, and later in the year occurs the regular commencement contest, open to members of all classes.
An annual debate has lately been established between the Erosophians and “Tics.” the first one having occurred this year.
The north rooms in the third story of the north building are known as the Eclectic and Atheniaedes hall and here the regular programs are presented.
The aim of the society is development in literary and oratorical lines, and how well it succeeds in its object is proved by the assistance it has been to all who have availed themselves of its privileges.
Be assured you are welcomed as a visitor or as a member.”
