In 1895
several young men sworn to celibacy decided to organize the
Athenaeum Literary Society. Two of the societies goals
were: to develop power of ready speaking and to gain
knowledge of parliamentary procedure. Housed in the Central
Building (Robinson Hall), every meeting included a debate
"upon some live question."
